The game was developed by 343 Industries in collaboration with the Dutch Vanguard Games and was released in 2013 by Microsoft Studios . The game was used Vanguards Blue Engine, which was previously used for the game Greed Corp and Gatling Gears . The game is suitable for touch (on tablets ) and operating with mouse and keyboard (for desktop PC ‘s). In October 2013 it was announced that the game also download (30 missions) would be available for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. In 2015 the game for iOS appeared.

The story of Halo: Spartan Assault takes place between the events of Halo 3 and Halo 4 . Themes are a new war with the Covenant , the first Spartan Ops missions of the program and the attendance of Commander Sarah Palmer. In addition to Sarah Palmer, the player can assume the role of Spartan Davis. Furthermore has Spartan Assault integration with Halo 4 : While playing the player experience points unlocking (XP) and earn achievements or new logos for your Spartan career in Halo 4.
